Today in the Gospel Jesus teaches us the Beatitudes. You can think of them as sort of a recipe for living a happy life. Now if the Beatitudes are like a recipe for happiness, then desiring a perfect life and seeking it apart from a deep, dynamic, personal relationship with Jesus who is God, is like trying to make the perfect omelet without eggs. Yet that’s what so many people try and do. If we are not seeking after the greatest Good, God himself, then all our efforts will, in the end, come up short.
