The readings today are challenging us as disciples of Jesus to be thermostats, not thermometers- To be active not passive; To be instruments of change, instead of like a weather rock, people who changes with the environment. As we strive to follow Jesus in the foothills, the invitation is to a deep, dynamic, personal relationship with God in Christ Jesus, a relationship that is not passive, that is not superficial, or only on the surface, subject to trends and fashions, but to a relationship that is deep, stable, unchanging, to the kind of relationship that flows out beyond us, to affect the world around us- our families, our church community, our town, our nation, and even the world.
