Beyond Tweaking

Sometimes I notice my computer gets sluggish. It doesn’t run quite as fast as it once did. I usually try and tweak it to make it run faster. Sometimes I clean it up, delete stuff, or maybe defragment the hard drive. Sometimes I uninstall software, or clear my cache or all the Internet cookies. But often the tweaks are only a temporary fix. Sometimes what it takes is something bolder, like completely reformatting the hard drive and reinstalling everything, or buying a new computer.

This weekend we celebrate Pentecost Sunday. We are reminded that GOD HAS A MIGHTY, AWESOME, WONDERFUL TRANSFORMATION IN MIND FOR YOU. Oftentimes though, I think we settle for tweaking when God wants us to experience transformation. To really pray for transformation is bold. It is to invite the Lord to reformat and reinstall everything in us. I wonder how many of us have ever really prayed a true and sincere prayer of transformation. Perhaps this Pentecost weekend you might try praying the following:

Holy Spirit,

Here I am.

I trust that you have an incredible plan for me.

Transform me. Transform my life.

Everything is on the table.

Take what you want to take and give what you want to give.

Transform me into the person you created me to be,

so I can live the life you envision for me.

I hold nothing back;

I am 100 percent available.

How can I help?

Amen.
